For many years, doctors and orthopedic surgeons wondered how to heal wounds faster. They discovered the healing power of platelet rich plasma. That medical application formed the basis of PRP for aesthetic use.

PRP comes from a small amount of your own blood, drawn and prepared on site at Vanguard Medical & Aesthetic Clinic. The blood is separated with a centrifuge to obtain a concentration of platelets. The platelet rich plasma is then reintroduced into skin by injection.

PRP comes from your own body, there is no risk of allergic reaction or rejection, and results look natural. Some patients experience minor swelling, redness, or bruising, but it typically resolves quickly.

While the PRP is being reinjected, some minor discomfort could be experienced. Typically, a burning or tingling feeling is experienced. Just a few minutes after the PRP injection, this sensation disappears.

For several years following therapy, PRP injection outcomes are still visible; however, they vary from person to person due to lifestyle factors and inherent variations in platelet rich plasma quality. PRP injections don’t require any downtime, however your skin can be a little red afterward. This is expected and normal. Redness typically lasts one to twenty-four hours. You can also have a little localised edoema.

Some patients choose to have treatment towards the end of the week as a result, giving them the weekend to recover. Patients recover at different rates. If PRP injections are used with microneedling, healing might take longer.
