Medical professionals have begun to use CoolSculpting for targeting areas of the body where fat is difficult to eliminate through diet and exercise. Dr. Folake Pepple and her team at Vanguard Medical & Aesthetic Clinic are offering this non-invasive, low-risk solution for qualifying patients. You may be wondering “Does this really work? And if so, how?”. Dr. Pepple would love for you to come in and discuss this groundbreaking fat freezing procedure with her.
What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved form of fat reduction called cryolipolysis that uses freezing temperatures to eliminate fat cells. Because the cold will not harm other cells (as it does to fat cells), the skin cells and underlying tissue remain undamaged through this procedure. The procedure is simple.
A vacuum is applied to the skin above the fatty tissue and, as it sits on the area, the fat cells are frozen and destroyed. The patient may feel a numbing sensation during this process due to the cold temperatures being applied. A CoolSculpting session takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to complete, during which the patient is pain free and awake (no anesthesia necessary). Once the procedure is complete, the patient will begin to see changes within three weeks with the continued loss for up to six months.
Does CoolSculpting really work?
Cryolipolysis procedures such as CoolSculpting have provided proven results and a high success rate. Even better, side effects have shown to be minimal when compared to other fat removal procedures such as liposuction.
Complications of CoolSculpting
As mentioned above, side effects are minimal but, as with most medical procedures, they do still exist. Due to CoolSculpting being a non-invasive, anesthesia-free procedure, these side-effects and complications (when they present themselves) will tend to be less when compared to other fat removal procedures. According to the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, less than 1 percent of patients treated report experiencing any issues. Some possible complications can include:
- Losing some sensation in the treated area
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Skin Redness
- Localized Pain

Once treatment is completed, the destroyed fat cells will not return. The #1 thing you can do for yourself is to lead a healthy life as that will minimize the chances of recurring fat.
