If you’re reading this article, the chances are you’ve noticed that you may be experiencing early signs of baldness and are taking a proactive approach. The good news is that even if you may be experiencing hair loss, this doesn’t necessarily mean you will go completely bald. If you begin the right treatment plans and preventative measures, you may be able to stop that dreaded receding hairline.
Are You Showing Signs of Balding?
The sooner you spot the signs, the better. The biggest challenge with this comes from being able to spot these signs, and by the time they become visible, it is likely you have already lost about 50% of your hair.
Some common signs of balding include:
- More hair fallout, either in the sink or shower or on your hairbrush
- Your hair starts reacting differently to the usual way you style it or brush it
- Hair growth is slower and comes in thinner
- Receding hairline, thinning around temples or bald spots
For more information on the different stages of balding, take a look at the Norwood Scale. You will be able to see the common types of Male Pattern Baldness (MPD). As hair loss progresses, it becomes harder to keep your hair and regrow lost hair.
Addressing Early Stage Hair Loss
The first step is not to panic. Most of the male population (around 85%) will experience MPB by the age of 50, so you are not alone! Because it is so common, there have been many breakthroughs and advancements in medical science in order to treat this condition. Stress can play a role in thinning hair, but stress-related hair loss is usually temporary and may grow back eventually.
When men start to lose their hair, they typically look towards both sides of their family for indications that the condition is genetic. We’re here to tell you that this is not a reliable clue as to figuring out whether you will suffer from MPB or not. Genetics can skip generations, or you may be affected by both maternal and paternal sides. There is no definite way to tell.
Taking Action
There are many effective treatments out there that have been clinically proven to help with hair loss. The sooner you take action, the better chance you have at preventing further permanent hair loss.
Doing a bit of research and talking to a healthcare provider about your options is a great choice in exploring treatment options for your hair loss. Drugs such as minoxidil and finasteride have shown good results through clinical trials, and can sometimes reverse MPB.
Suffering from male pattern baldness can be stressful or frustrating, and navigating through the different treatment options on your own can be confusing, as you don’t want to make things worse!
